Foton Premieres at Dakar Rally 2014

January 5, 2014 The 36th Edition of the Dakar Rally 2014 kicked off in Argentina, with Helder Rosario at the wheel. This event marks the first-ever participation of Chinese-made Foton Motor Co., into this event. This year the event totals 9000 meters long with more than 5200 meters slated for competitive use. Dakar’s route runs through Argentina, Bolivia and finishes on January 18 in the Chilean city of Valparaiso. This year’s Dakar event in South America is historically record-setting for being both the longest distance Dakar race in South America and also for being the most difficult race in Dakar history.

The Dakar Rally is notoriously the harshest, most dangerous competitive automotive event in the world, and is followed by 5 million people worldwide.

Before the Rally-1

Foton Motor Co. (Foton) brings two Tunland pickups to this year’s 2014 rally. Foton invested heavily in this rally, inviting four experienced drivers, all of whom participated at least three times in previous Dakar Rally events. The drivers are divided into two groups, with truck number 369 driven by EGUIGUREN LUIS and CLAUDIO ESPINOZA, and truck #411 driven by CHICHARRO ALVARO and CHICHARRO ALVARO JR, both of whom frequently participate in Chile’s Ecasa racing club in the pickup truck division. In addition, two of Foton’s Auman brand of heavy-duty trucks will be participating in the Dakar Rally 2014 to run alongside both of its Tunland trucks during the entire length of the competition.
